Rheumatic Fever services in schools:

We promote Rheumatic Fever in schools and the surrounding Te Ika Whenua communities to raise awareness, share information and prevention of Rheumatic Fever and our tamariki in the hopes to reduce the amount of infection and re-infection cases.

All consented tamariki receive throat swabs & kiri ora. These swabs are to identify infection and to ensure the children are clear of Strep Throat.

What happens if my child test positive for Strep Throat?

If your child tests positive for Strep Throat, he/she will be prescribed a course of antibiotics to complete over 10 days or as instructed by their respective GP/Medical Centre.

What can we do to reduce Strep Throat?

  • Wash your hands thoroughly

  • Covering your mouth when you cough and sneeze

  • Do not share food and drinks
